Brett Sheehy

Melbourne International Arts Festival

This div will be replaced

Brett Sheehy is one of Australia's most accomplished artistic directors, producers and curators. In 2009, the energetic and charismatic Sheehy debuts his first Melbourne International Arts Festival, which runs between 9 -24 October. After successful stints as artistic director for both Sydney and Adelaide's festivals previously, he now has the honour of being the first person to artistically direct all three major Australian arts festivals.

On the eve of festival's opening on Friday 9 Oct, we caught up with Brett to discuss some of the festival highlights and to gain some understanding of how an international arts festival comes together.

This year's festival line up looks particularly impressive with many Australian debuts including Sasha Waltz, Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Fischerspooner, Sebastian Nubling, Brain Failure, Caroline Stein, Hofesh Shechter, Beans, Peeping Tom Collective, and Ramallah Underground. For full program details visit the official festival website.

Can't wait to catch Transe Express. Just by looking at the short preview on them, I immediately fell in love with their strong visual style and sound. Definitely a must go on my Melbourne trip which coincidentally falls on the day of the Festival opening. :) Thank God its in Melbourne!!

I saw Transe Express and thought they were wonderful.. the bells from the city ringing before their performance was very emotive. A great start to the festival!

I saw Sascha Waltz's Korper tonight at the Arts Centre and what a wonderful and emotive piece of art. We are very lucky in Melbourne to have such wonderful international artists grace our fair city.
